"A drawing is simply a line going for a walk"  Paul Klee

The line is one of the simplest elements of art yet one of the most fundamental.

Most of my work is line and watercolour, but with a twist, in that I challenge myself to use one single continuous line. This creates a constraint against which to innovate-it makes me simplify; limiting myself to the essential elements of the composition. It encourages me to see the contours of hills, the outlines of houses and the silhouettes of people. Preparatory sketches are critical so that I can capture the key dimensions of the image in my minds eye, because once I put pen to paper  then I am off on an exciting journey with no time to catch my breath-literally going with the flow. Recent work has been focussed on trying to capture the light and lines between sky, sea, sand, hills, buildings and people in Swanage and the Isle of Purbeck.
